Dave MG: I'm tempted to answer simply no.

But since this is the thread it is, a more complete and substantive answer is called for.

In what way could Dr J possibly be facing a "credibility deficit", what has he promised that he has not delivered?

In what way has he "misjudged the standards game". Seems like he has managed to weave his way through hostile territory to achieve a result that all (well there is EDGE which might be 2.5 or 3.0 gen) standards are CDMA. That's impressive success against huge odds.

When and where did Dr J. say he was "betting the company on HDR?" Seems like CDMA is alive and expanding and HDR will soon be, so even if he did say that, how it that a failure?

What proof do you have that either the Korean government or all of the yet to be selected 3rd gen companies will go completely with WCDMA? Since nothing has happened except Bloomberg and Dow Jones "reports"[sic]., on what do you base that premise?

And last but not least what possible evidence can you cite that WCDMA will "roll out earlier than he anticipates" since he hasn't fixed any such date anyway and his position has throughout been - the sooner the better?

Curious.

Best.

Chaz

What does it mean to say that all three of the Korean carriers will go with WCDMA?

SK and KT are already rolling out 1x and most likely HDR on existing spectrum. No way will these carriers roll out 3g on new spectrum that cannot inter-operate with the 1x/HDR on the old spectrum. What will this mean from a chip perspective? Will Q produce these DS/MC/HDR dual mode chips? More than likely. Given a chip like this, what does this say about the nature of WCDMA? Does it become part of a merged standard?

Korea is as good a place as any for this harmonization test to occur. The Korean courts have ruled favorably on the Q IPR. All of the vendors involved in the Korean build out will be fully licensed since they will need to inter-operate with CDMA2000.
