rb - I don't think many producers buy gold in anticipation of a rise in the price - I believe Goldfields bought some a while ago. I'm of course aware of hedging by producers. In short I think that 'commercials' doesn't refer to producers.
And if it refers to fabricators I can't see why they would go short - since they go long presumably to secure a price for the future. I'm just trying to nail this definition down.
