Remember, voting rights are not withheld from felons. Only convicted felons lose the franchise in most states.

Since the point of my contention with you has become whether or not "felon" is commonly used to denote a person merely suspected of committing a crime, show an article from a major news organization referring to a person as a felon without a trial having taken place.

Ever heard of an accident?

Third, when referring to a killer, there are only two ways that mens rea could exculpate: if the person were reasonably acting in self- defense, or if the person were insane

There may be ample evidence that OJ is a killer, but there is no evidence that he is a felon (you would need a guilty verdict). In fact, I have all the evidence I need to prove in about 10 seconds that OJ is NOT a felon - he has never been convicted of a felony.

although the latitude with public figures is pretty great not to call them felons when they have never been committed of a crime. That is libel or slander per se and would create instant liability for whomever published the statement. Defamation of a public figure is actionable where there is reckless disregard for whether a statement is true or false.
