Russian bank TIB says bought 8 tns of gold 2000, up 60% on yr
Moscow--July 10--The Trust and Investment Bank (TIB) has concluded deals to
purchase 8 tonnes of gold from domestic producers this year compared with 5
tonnes in 1999, the Director of TIB's Precious Metals Department, Olga
Anikeichik, said Monday. She also said TIB planned to buy "at least the same
amount of gold in 2001 as this year," but did not provide the exact figure.

S Africa's Gold Fields said to be in talks on Ashanti assets
Johannesburg--July 10--South African gold producer Gold Fields Ltd. is
rumored to be in talks with Ghanaian government officials that could see it take
control of Ashanti Goldfields' non-Ghanaian assets and its hedge and debt
position. Although Gold Fields officials would not comment on the speculation, a
source close to the deal told I-Net Bridge that Gold Fields had made proposals
to the Ghana government recently and were "very favorably received." (Story

McWatters implements gold hedging program
Toronto--July 10--Canada's McWatters Mining on Monday said it has completed
two deals that will provide it with C$27 million in long-term financing, which
will be used to pay off a current loan and provide a basis for future expansion.
McWatters is
also spending US$1 million on a hedging program that assures the sale of 70% of
its gold production at not less than US$290 per ounce and capping the potential
upside when gold prices exceed US$370 per ounce. (Story .15117)
