DS - RE: "I would imagine that they will actually bump those table structures by a factor of 4, announce the 3GB max with current drive technology then when the new drives from SGT start shipping, bump the max to 6GB and add some CPU horsepower to the mix to keep the throughput numbers rising."

You mean TB, right? Are they switching back to Intel processors for this new generation, or sticking with Alphas? Using Intel processors makes more sense (if the performance and reliability are comparable) because of Intel's much larger infrastructure support throughout the industry.

Re: VI

For those of us who aren't as familiar with NTAP as perhaps we should be, could you summarize what VI is or provide pointers to it. Thanks.

I just got my copy of Chase H&Q report on NTAP. Started as a Strong Buy. An interesting detail - the OS must be pretty efficient because the F760 (1.4 TB of storage capacity) only needs 1GB of memory DRAM. Other interesting facts- NTAP outsources the bulk of it's manufacturing but does final quality testing in house. They are starting to target the oil + gas geology market and have hired specialist sales persons in this error. The time between hire of salespersons and productivity has been cut in half in the last year.Employee attrition is quite low. Heterogenous file sharing is the killer ap for NAS,and it's appliance model is disruptive. Company is expected to expand it's product line both up and down scale.
