ATHM works with ATT and many other cable companies to provide its service rather than competing with them.ATHM's only head to head competition is DSL - at least until 2002, when the cable companies may choose to work with other broadband service providers to offer Internet over cable modem as well.

ATHM has exclusive arrangements with TCI which is the largest cable operator. They also have a host of other large cable operators with whom they have exclusive deals. Sure internet access via cable modem may become a commodity and I wouldn't advocate buying ATHM at 50 or 60. But I believe at sub 20 levels the risk/reward ratio is in your favor. Anindo

I know a lot of people who use ATHM's Cable Modem Service in Nassau County, NY. I've personally sat down a number of times and used it. It's good but it has slowed down somewhat over the past couple of months. The best cable modem service is Time Warner, RoadRunner. I have personally used it in my home on a regular basis since March 1, 2000 and it has only gotten faster and better. Beep Beep. No Joke. I know the Perma Bears won't like to hear this but Time Warner will continue to be a Big Winner moving forward with a Capitol W. PS Time Warner's Cable TV and Cable Modem service is the Best. If the Perma Bears ever were to hedge their Bearish Bets, Time Warner would be the stock to do it. JMHO. No offense intended.
