Buried a few cars with the John Deere, though -g-

There are 3 cars partially buried in a ravine on my property. When I get caught up with other things, I'm planning to dig them up to see what they are. All I know about them is that they were 30's cars that were on the property when my in-laws bought the place in the 60's.

I also dug up a beautiful, ancient tire a couple of months ago when widening my driveway. Had a gash in the sidewall, but great tread and no dry-rot. Big bias-ply whitewall. No idea of the age, but I've still got it somewhere.

First car: Well, my first ride was a motorcycle. Harley Davidson X-90. Made by Aermacchi. Twas a shame to have such a bike sullying HD's good name.

My first 4-wheel vehicle (I had 3 bikes prior to it, the other two being a Honda CL160 and a Kawasaki G3SS that is at the core of many of my favorite stories of my wild youth) was a 64 Chevy Biscayne 4-door 6-banger with 3 on the tree.

Paid $200 for that car and it never let me down for 2 years until I put a hole in a piston by advancing the timing too far. Then destroyed the bottom end by driving it to work and back that night.

Most of my mechanical lessons had similar methods of delivery. :)
