Juergen,

I'm beginning to think that manipulations are the norm rather
than the exception.
Some of the games I've noticed too...
Bid and Asks suddenly disappear as you mentioned.
Orders partially filled to give the illusion of further buying or selling interest.
Orders manipulated to give the appearance of more trading
activity. (I have encountered several occasions when I would
put in an order for a buy or sell at a current bid or ask
with sufficient quantity available only to
have the MM "hit" my order 100 shares at a time and the
ticks go +,-,+,-...)
I've also seen my orders filled showing incorrect ticks, uptick instead of downtick, etc.
Orders already filled still showing bid or ask for as long as is convenient for MM.
I could go on but the point is I think we only see the tip
of the MM BS Iceberg. Trading is a game and MMs do not play
nice...they "show" us what they want us to see.
Since I've been regularly using Island Book as a backup reference I've noticed more that I really ever wanted to know.
Best of Luck,
Eichler
