The best thing to do is what the former President of Yale advocates: terminate the public school system in the United States. Privatize it all.

The public schools have become little more than indoctrination centers now. Textbooks must all be government "approved" and must follow the federalist "new speak" and revised history.

Is it any wonder that high school students think Connecticut is a city in South America?

<<Do you really think that the value of friendship is something that schools can teach?>> They've got billions of tax dollars for futebol; seems a few sense/cents could go for sportsmanship. They've got more billions for social programs to "prevent" drugs, alcohol, teen pregnancy, gangs, violence; seems like they could put a few sense/cents into encouraging community building and citizenry.
But you are probably right, the public schools are held hostage by heavily funded social programs. No room at all for silliness like getting to know the people around you, finding something to like about them, and building trusting relationships. Nupe, too busy for that. Hello private schools; kiss, kiss, goodbye tax dollars.
