slacker: Suggest you not hold your breath for any government, Korean or elsewhere, to "wake up" as you put it.As slow, plodding and inept as some large private organizations can be, governments all around the world hold an unchallenged record for slowness to "wake up". Sad, but history is on the side of deep sleep and slowness to act as a feature of government.

Now, for a little real stuff.

Where I see a huge opportunity for Korean sales is with Samsung (which has a particularly warm and close relationship to Qualcomm as I understand it).

There hasn't been much comment here on the Samsung announcement that it can jazz up current spectrum data rates in Korea (and presumably elsewhere) to 5M in the second half of next year using a modified 1xEV/HDR; and then reach speeds of up to 15M when 3X spectrum is available using CDMA2000.

First, does anyone here think that Samsung can do this?

Second, if Samsung can, isn't this a "killer ap" for Qualcomm's CDMA2000 1xMC/1xEV/HDR (however Samsung puts this together) next year, and for CDMA2000 phase 2 whenever available, as a mobile wireless / internet/intranet connection?

Best.

Chaz

Slacker,

You are probably correct about the June ebb, but it may last a little longer. Not because of anything wrong, it's just a cyclical transition before 1X rolls in Oct. I think customers will be willing to wait a few months for the "new and improved" higher data handsets. While they are waiting, there may be some changes in the subsidy ban as well.

You are also correct about the State mandated reduction from 58% to 50% for SK. Not only should the ban increase the profit picture but the 1X product cycle could prove an added bonus...50% market of 27m subs...if 1X delivers as promised and becomes popular quickly...$$$ during the next several quarters.

I will be watching very closely to how the 1X rollout is received as this will be a VERY IMPORTANT piece of Q's puzzle going forward.
