Add to that.

1. Intel was added to the DOW. This made them more "legitimate", especially to foreigners.

2. The other half of the Wintel duo took a real credibility hit with their handling of the Justice Dep't. By comparison, people realized that Intel was run by adults (a real rarity in Silicon Valley with billionaires looking through their rival's garbage as a civic duty). Intel's increase in market cap for the 1st half, 2000 was almost equal to MSFT's decline in market cap.

3. The shift from negative to positive analyst spin.

4. The successful transition from Andy Grove to Craig Barrett, seen as moving from strength to strength.

5. The torrent of new business initiatives to shift Intel's mission to being the becoming the building blocks of the internet.

Given all these positives, I guess we have a right to be pleased. I just hope it lasts.
