To: J.B.C. who wrote (1716 ) 7/13/2000 10:42:49 AM From: swisstrader Read Replies (2) | Respond to of 44012 JBC: any ever tell you you could be a writer for Golf Digest?...on a more serious note, my game continues to languish in the low 90's while my shot making seems to be greatly improving...one of my friends in my foursome (he's an 8) commented that I'm easily an 80's player, all a matter of course management and club selection...and on your end, you're deadly accurate when you state that you think my mental game gets in the way of posting lower scores (I tend to mentally beat the heck out of myself)...in answer to your questions: On a no pressure round, how do you score? Does the round consist of a few pars, a few bogeys, and a few others? Or is it more like 5's 6's and 7's?. My round consists of a sprinkling of pars (4-6), but then an equal number of blow up doubles and triples...yesterday I was 3 over after 5, then proceeded to hit a triple, a double and a bogie, and then closed with being a yuckie 10 over for the 9....this is the pattern that I see happening time and time again (great run, followed by pure pain). Do you consistently work the ball one way such as a fade or a draw? Wish I could, but generally, my shot is more of a fade. Do you use a consistent preshot routine when you play? If so do you use that routine when you practice? Yes. >>I'll add one other: I choke whenever I'm in contention, whether it be a $5 nassau or a more serious club tournament. TRUE!!! << This is valuable info, but where does the breakdown show up? Is it in your overall game, or is it on your full shot's, chips or putts? It's my ENTIRE game, starting with drives and right through my short game...everything just freezes and I revert to how I played when I first started playing. Has your practice ever consisted of a round played by yourself, even if it's nine holes? Yup. On a more positive note, my last 3-4 rounds have shown consisistent improvement and chipping away at one or two strokes each round (perhaps these notes are having a positive impact?!)....thanks for the assist.
