I agree that there are a lot more shorts than just the arbs right now. Usual emotional story: JDSU takes 25% hit virtually overnite and the downside bandwagon looks to many like it has a long way to go when in fact this negative perception is just what the arbs want. IMO the really big players don't stay short the acquiring company forever, but go long once they have gotten the short squeeze underway. Then you have shorts scrambling to cover, momos coming back in, and the weak hands buying again too after selling out in fear and kicking themselves at having to buy back in higher... The contrarian situation is that this deal 6-9 months ago was what everyone was yearning for. Now that it's here, it's like the familiar theme in romantic literature: the anticipation is more exciting than the conquest. Once the BS dies down, we'll see new highs IMO.
