Hi Ali, Nice analysis on sdli. Would you care to present a similar analysis on cien?

I've stated here on several occasions that my own valuation of cien in today's market is upward of $50 BB.

In a June 9 report, Credit Suisse First Boston, listed all the optical networking acquisitions during 1999 and 2000 YTD. Here are the totals:

1999........$26.8 BB
2000........$36.9 BB

and
SDLI........$41.0 BB

CSFB goes on to state that the acquisition frenzy will continue, as larger companies are struggling with getting new products out of the lab. It is easier to buy now and avoid missing a quarter or more, than be a late comer to the party. Witness Lucent's acquisition of Chromatis. Bell Lab's scientific genius could easily invent a product that would run circles around the Chromatis box. But Lucent cannot execute fast enough to get that product to market on time.

So it goes. These are exciting times.
