iXL and RealNetworks Form Alliance to Deliver Advanced Broadband Media Solutions
ATLANTA, July 12 /PRNewswire/ -- iXL, Inc., a subsidiary of iXL Enterprises, Inc. (Nasdaq: IIXL - news) and a premier e-business services firm, and RealNetworks®, (Nasdaq: RNWK - news), the recognized leader in media delivery on the Internet, announced today an agreement that will provide clients with a high level of focused expertise in engineering and integration services, as well as access to customized media and e-commerce applications. As part of this alliance, RealNetworks names iXL as a Level 3 RealPartner Program member, signifying that iXL is a premier e-business integration partner.
iXL's Digital Media & Broadband Solutions group worked closely with RealNetworks' Professional Services group to extend RealNetworks' custom software components to support specific streaming media solutions for client commerce opportunities, enhanced information and electronic programming guide (EPG) updates. These custom components closely align with iXL's ``Create Once, Publish Everywhere'' (COPE(TM)) initiative (see April 10, 2000 iXL, Inc. news release). Specifically, in collaboration with iXL, RealNetworks has custom- built broadcast automation technology to interface with COPE publishing systems, to allow for streamed, television-like broadcast scheduling and delivery.

* Marketing Activities: iXL and RealNetworks will jointly pursue
marketing initiatives that emphasize the companies' leading edge
digital media solutions development. For example, at the recent
RealNetworks RealConference 2000, iXL client solutions and its COPE
initiative were highlighted in four separate conference panel sessions
and iXL also participated in an exhibit booth.
* Customer Development: iXL and RealNetworks will jointly target new
customers that will benefit from the combined iXL and RealNetworks
solutions innovations. Initially, customer development will target the
media and entertainment industry, and later this year will extend its
focus to the financial services, travel and retail industries.
