While the company wouldn't talk about Windows 2000
sales, analysts said businesses are now spending more on specialized Internet software than on big operating
system platforms such as Windows 2000 -- a change that already hurt shares of software makers Computer
Associates International Inc. and BMC International Corp. The future of Microsoft's shares will also depend on the
success of its new Microsoft.NET product line of Internet-based software, the paper said.

Perhaps, but wouldn't you also think the trend toward internet spending is a net plus for Cisco?

LOL!

Given that Murphy apparently doesn't know the difference between Office 2000 and Windows 2000 pretty much discounts what he says. That aside if he's focused only on enterprise users he's missing the target. Win2000 is targeted more at infrastrucutre and it could be (don't have any knowledge of this) that Microsoft is penetrating this space and doing better than expected. Remember Microsoft spent about 20B last year in service provider investments (Qwest, AT&T, and a bunch of others - as well as a partnership in Wirless Knowledge). So, Murphy may be missing the trees in the forest.
