Along these same lines, I'm not really for controlling minimum's but its ironic that some futures brokers do offer the small 3k-5k minimum. The industry knows that being under capitalized also means a minimal chance of profits, thus bigger chance of draw downs, or being knocked out.
As with stocks, sure you can start small and be successful trading the mid-am with beginners luck, but its highly unlikely.
