One of the worst trades I have ever made in my life was selling a naked call on Yahoo! in October of 1998.

This was a time when most "rational" investors (I like to think of myself that way) found the valuations on the AOL/Yahoo!/Ebay/Amazon bunch disturbing and stared at daily price increases of $15-35/day without doing a damn thing.

I decided enough was enough and sold an uncovered call - geez, that was a costly lesson - $8,000 to be exact. The best part was that I decided to cover my position and take my loss when the stock hit $300. I was just totally stunned and thought, "how could IT go any higher?". About a week later, YHOO went to $400. I would have almost been wiped out had I kept the short position.

I only relate this story to this board because CNBC could cost some investors some big money by putting out crap like "Broadcom is the short-of-the week".

Caveat emptor!
