I'm becoming convinced that what this industry needs is a nice big fat heavy sustained unforseen brooding recession.

I’ve had the same thought in the last year, perhaps, in my case, it’s just of symptom of getting older. I’m sure Susan worked very hard and feels she deserved a break, but good work or not, taking a sabbatical for being tired would have been unthinkable a decade ago.

As Grace pointed out, the backside of stock option incentive programs is the problem of retaining and/or motivating vested employees. In today market place leverage rests primarily with the skilled employee.

Susan Bratton, Excite@Home Corp.'s (ATHM) vice-president for marketing, who is on month two of a three-month sabbatical.

Not to worry...Susan just hasn't figured it out yet.

It reads something like this:
Gosh Susan, we really don't know what to do with you.

I'll tell you what...why don't you take a 3 month sabbatical and we won't miss you.

In fact, we will remove your position while you are gone.

Your office has already been reassigned.

I got dibs on your parking spot.

We hope you get the message.

3 months is plenty of time to find a new job.

I'll tell you what, if you don't call us in 2 months and tell us you have a new job, we will call you in the third month and tell you the bad news.
