. When I pointed this out I discovered that the prevailing thought is that we deserve it.

I think you just wandered into something without having the context. I understand the sensitivity of attaching the words Muslim and fanatic. It may not have been PC but, having been with this thread from the beginning, I'm sure it wasn't intended as an insult. Please don't read too much into it.

Karen

In that part of the world i believe the chances of a fanatic being of the muslim persuasion are quite high.

Fwiw, i see no hatred in Steven ... and i rather suspect that Christ and Mahomet both would approve of the majority of sentiments he expresses here.

'the prevailing thought is that we deserve it' - do you consider yourself to be a muslim?

Not long ago a perfectly innocent canadian was imprisioned after attempting to cross the border into the US for a business meeting ... reason, he had an arabic sounding name and looked something like some terrorist they were looking for.

Point taken, if your meaning is that we are all individuals ... i have two countries and am quite attached to a third, but like Tazio the only group i really feel i belong to is the human race ... after that it's a free-for-all ... and it's such an absurd species, rich with joke material ... it would be a shame to miss that.

I would say to you that the villification of middle-Eastern people is wrong. And there is a LOT of it. Especially in the movies. But Steven does not do it.

Let me call your attention to something though. Something I found quite wonderful. There is a new movie out on video called Hanging Up. It isn't very good- but there is something wonderful in it. There is the most lovely doctor and mother in the supporting cast- and guess what? They are middleEasterners. They didn't have to be- but they ARE! And let me tell you- I wish that mother in the movie was MY mother. She is a marvelous and compassionate soul. And my husband and I both INDEPENDENTLY noticed this- because after the movie we turned to each other and said exactly the same thing. That THAT bit of cultural reaching out- was the BEST thing in the movie.
