Oh chucks!!!
Here we go:

The Dow is higher as the financial sector is strong, providing key support
amid news of consolidation.

Yesterday, Yahoo! (YHOO +16 7/16) reported better than expected earnings,
topping estimates by 2 cents, and this helped to restore investor confidence
in tech.

Other strong sectors are the chip/chip equipment, networking, and computer
hardware while biotechs have struggled despite Biogen's (BGEN -1 3/8)
positive earnings release.

The big news in the financial sector was that PaineWebber Group (PWJ +15
15/16) is being acquired by Swiss financial group UBS AG (UBS -15 11/16) in
a cash and stock deal valuing the U.S. broker at $10.8 bln or $73.50 per
share, a 47% premium on yesterday's closing price.

Other Dow winners have been American Express (AXP +15/16), International
Paper (IP +1 3/8), and IBM (+2) while the retail, drug, oil, food/beverage,
and tobacco components have lagged in today's action.

Re: subsequent posts/posters

Noah, you do the third revised thread description a grave injustice with your selective reference to 'clueless.' To be perfectly objective, you must include those of us who are deemed to be not only clueless, but also:

axe-grinders and bashers;
self-promoters;

and of course, the
Really Brain Dead;

Name calling and sardonic wit, gee, where have we heard that before?

A

Thanks Noah

Funny, I would have never noticed as I turned off displaying the header (Hide original post ) so I could see more posts. I have this thread bookmarked and respond to interesting posts as I always have.

I really see no reason to post here any original content anyway as I prefer to honor the true independent thinker named Truman and post the good stuff in his thread:

PS Has one of the originators lost it or what? I guess having a difference of opinion or a business of your own is reason for some to call us clueless. Do you know where can I buy a clue? Maybe David Corn will offer a special deal on clues with a subscription to his interpretations?
