DARBES re <<I have generally found it never safe to predict just what AMD is to do in the short term.>>

I was not predicting anything! I said "I think it is safe to say the AMD will not fall tomorrow because of MOT" :)

Why AMD investors have to be patient: The fact is, this
company has performed dismally for the entire period of 1996 to 1999.

1996 - Operating loss of $253M
1997 - Operating loss of $91M, semiconductor recession hits
1998 - Operating loss of $164M
1999 - Operating loss of $386M through Q3, recession ends ~ Q2

TOTAL ACCUMULATED LOSS: $914M
Based on average shares thru the period thats about $6 per
share.

To counterbalance the losses, there are the following gains:
Sale of Vantis division: $259M
Profit in Q4'99: $65M
Profit in Q1'00: $189M
Anticipated gain sale of Comm Div $300M (? $375M cash for 90%)
TOTAL ACCUMULATED PROFIT UP TO Q2:$813M

So, for Joe Analyst, he feels like he's been going downhill
for four years. He has, but the profit accumulation is so rapid,
that with Q2's profit, all the remaining losses of the last
four years will be erased!
I predict that when earnings of > 1 billion dollars
come into view, Joe Analyst will soon forget about the years of misery.
We're getting close, Q2 may start the reassessment.
