1) It isn't "Microsoft's re-implementation"
2) For the last 3 years I've found nothing in the Unix O'Reilly Perl book that I can't run under Perl for Windows. Even if there is, it doesn't bother me, and why should it bother you?
3) It's good that a company like ActiveState can exist and make money by writing language extensions that Sun would never allow.
4) Perl and Cobol will now be able to do just about everything Java can.
