Whatever the definitional fog, the clear point is that many of us will have more than one gizmo using CDMA/HDR - our phone, our vaious handhelds, our laptop, our PC, and on and on and on. One person, many "gizmos" to count.

Chaz -

How many different applications will GE (and other consumer and industrial products manufacturers) develop for always-on wireless connectivity?

More than I have fingers and toes.

Chaz, I didn't want to give the impression that each potential subscriber would have only one phone or appliance. They may have several. The key here is (1) the number of potential subscribers and (2) the TIME consumed using the service over a given period. If the users have more than one appliance, it stands to reason that the use of the service in minutes per month, or some similar measurement, will increase dramatically. As CDMA makes it possible to do more things with wireless at less cost, one may infer that a CDMA system will likely be more profitable for the service provider than a competing GSM or TDMA system. That's why the only conclusion one can draw is that CDMA will eventually replace every other system, and probably will replace the others soon enough for QCOM to profit greatly from the remaining years its patents are valid.
