It's not only active atheism. It's the teaching of values which exclude any consideration of rightness or wrongness arising from anywhere outside the human conscience. Certainly it's a contentious issue. However, most believers in free speech argue that the answer to false speech is not censorship but more speech. Funny, though, how that argument doesn't extend to religion in the schools. When it comes to religion, free speech advocates look the other way as fast as they can.
