Jeff,

Have I mis-read, becasue I was under the impression MSFT was only to pay royalties on some of their products, not the full product line? I should review that aspect, but was hoping for your quick thought.

The MS IPG in the Windows OS (PC activated via TV tuner) does not pay a per unit fee as this was renegotiated with MS paying Gemstar an additional $25MM upfront. These IPGs are included in the total MS base and advertising will start once this base (number not disclosed) hits a certain level.

Any thoughts on what the cable industry will do in light of this? Will they bow to the fact this makes GMST technology pretty much their only choice? Will they fight a silly fight?

Gemstar has the largest in AT&T Broadband and will have Time Warner should AOL be successful in the acquisition. The two are 50% of the US cable market. These are contractual matters. Henry was clear on this in a recent conference call.

Regards
Stew
