The JDSU/SDLI merger only strengthens Corning's position, IMHO. It becomes an important alternative for customers such as NT, ALA, Lucent. No company wants to be limited to just one supplier.
It also partly explains the need to continue expanding capacity. They will probably be going at full capacity even after the increases in capacity take effect. I bet GLW will doing these expansion announcement a several times in the coming years.
