lml- Thanks for the rollup of what is happening in the US. It does reflect a lot of confusion about what is really happening today, and forecast for tomorrow. Which is exactly what I find as I read independent reports from various sources. It's nice that your article brings them all together, including the high and low estimates.

I'm having trouble getting a true read on it overall. Especially the upgraded MSO plant status(two-way capable). That's the one that goes all over the map. Cable telephony is easy because you can follow what the few equipment providers say about it. DSL seems to be more consistent with their figures.

With either HFC or DSL, I personally don't characterize it as being so slow to rollout. 2000 seems to be the watershed year for both technologies, and it should be expected to have a somewhat slow start. I think most believe DSL is slow because it was ready about six years ago. But that doesn't count because the telcos had zero motivation to roll it out. So the real timeline, IMVHO, started with ATT buying the cable plants. Taken in that perspective, these access technologies are rolling out quickly. Thanks. -MikeM(From Florida)
