"I have never heard of a terrorist who claimed science as a motivation." At the root of most terrorist acts are three consistent variables. 1) Real Estate 2) Social influence 3) Injustice. The first two are basically the natural tendencies we all have to expand our territory and influence and to protect what we already feel is ours. To me this defines materialism. Of course wheeling and dealing has been going on since the beginning of time. So, some peoples materialistic holdings expand while other's are diminished. Fine and good as long as everyone sees there is an even playing field. When there is not, and people see their lot being unfairly imposed upon...well, emotions flair. In this case the claim of injustice is an offspring of the first two. I have never heard of a “Terrorist” who says he just had to lob a bomb because the ideas of those guys were not the same ones as I read in my religion. Religion plays a part when the people feel bound to God to correct injustice. At other times we simply call them revolutionaries or freedom fighters. As usual you are over stating the religious influence here. I wonder why you always do that?

"I have never seen a scientist on TV demanding that our nation be governed by the laws of science." Aw Pshaw... science and technology are constantly promoted as the only possible way that we will over come the struggles of our generation. At times it is put at odds with religious views. Controlling population comes to mind.

"I have never heard a scientist proclaim that only by adopting a certain scientific belief could anyone attain salvation." Well, if you mean the salvation of the soul ... you are probably right. But if you mean salvation as in the survival of the species you are dead wrong.
