I read recently that in 1991 csco had revenues of $1.9B and today they are about $20B. I wonder if those of you who were tech investors back around the early nineties (I was not) can recall whether this slow public awakening that I feel is occurring in regard to the jdsu's and sdli's of the world is similar to the csco experience. Of course what I am leading to is that for years people have been saying the csco paid too much for acquisitions, couldn't possibly keep up sales and profit growth, etc., and everybody who held all these years is laughing all the way to the bank.

Idle Thoughts Dept.
Just curious, but does anyone think we could get a split announcement at earnings? At 348 a share, the stock is now well into splitting territory. And if the merger weren't happening, it seems they would be ready to split the stock. Since the merger might not happen, perhaps they might split it anyway. Does anyone know of similar instances?

Pat, I feel its highly unlikely that during a new presidency, either the JDSU/SDLI merger will be denied or that MSFT will be splitup.

If one thinks about it rationally, regardless of who becomes president, there is a strong likelihood of a significant change in corporate as well as judicial policy.

Its quite remarkable how the press reports certain items yet fails to report the obvious. Perhaps I may be wrong about the MSFT issue and maybe it may go from the appelate to the supreme level and the judicial order to split enforced, but I highly doubt a new presidency will have the same tenacity within the confines of the DOJ for JDSU/SDLI.

Regards,
Hasan
