B: Frost & Sullivan Predicts Unified Messaging Markets to Shift Focus to
Service Providers

SAN JOSE, Calif., Jul 17, 2000 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Major vendors in the unified
messaging markets are shifting their focus from the enterprise sector to service
providers.

The ASP model is rapidly being adopted to encourage service providers to offer
unified messaging services. This should have a very positive impact on the
penetration of this technology since the cost issues will be considerably
diminished.

According to new strategic market research from Frost & Sullivan
(www.frost.com), "U.S. Unified Messaging Markets," this market generated
revenues of $392.0 million in 1999. Revenues are projected to grow rapidly to
$5.2 billion by 2006.

An increasing number of people are receiving numerous messages from a variety of
media. There is also the constant pressure among organizations to remain
productive and reduce costs.

"Savvy businesses are recognizing the value of employee time and are beginning
to implement technologies to convert their staff's 'busy' time into more
fruitful activities," says Frost & Sullivan Research Manager Alpa Shah. "Others
are adopting unified messaging to retain employees in highly competitive
industries such as high-tech and financial, since such a technology is likely to
improve the corporate spirit within the organization. A combination of these
factors is driving the demand for unified messaging."

The service provider sector is driven by the increasing mobility of end users,
resulting in their subscribing to unified messaging services. Service providers
are expected to aggressively promote these services because it will provide them
with the opportunity to become Internet portals. Providers who are able to
retain customers with a variety of enhanced services will hold the competitive
edge in this market.

"One of the biggest challenges facing market participants is the delay in
adoption of these technologies. Since many service providers find it too costly
to invest in the infrastructure needed to offer unified messaging to their
customers, the entrance of ASPs will allow them to get their feet wet," says
Shah. "This trend will significantly raise awareness and is likely to have a
tremendous impact on market expansion."
