Crane, the post was merely a wake up call. . . .not name calling. . . nor was it "I'm doing well and you aren't". . . nor was it intended to offend anyone. . . just to WAKE everyone up to take a good look at what they are doing. . . and how they are doing it. . . . . We must consider changing as the markets change. And whether I personally do well or not is actually of little concern here. Educating, guiding, challenging and leading all of you is. . .

On this thread alone, we have learned to adjust to many facets of the market. . . and trade accordingly. . .yet the market just keeps on changing . . . so we must continue to adapt.

As for fear and greed, you are correct that they play a large role in the decision making process. But saying they are the only factors is misleading. Sometimes FINANCIAL NEED comes into play. Other times TAXES do. And we've all seen how MARGIN CALLS can force folks into making decisions they don't want to make. Then there is COMPLACENCY or LAZINESS. How about ADDICTION? Or even BOREDOM? Or how about those that are following a prescribed TRADING STRATEGY that leads them to hold too long or sell too soon? Then there are the BLIND SHEEP that simply follow whatever a certain leader says good or bad. Or how about those that load up on a company near the bottom only to find the company screwed up its accounting and is going to come under INVESTIGATION?

Likewise, the value investor, following the most recommended method of investing is not necessarily a victim of fear or greed, when investments fail to pay off . . . during times of tech mania, value stocks tend to move in the opposite direction as techs? Fear or greed have nothing to do with it.

You are also correct that DISCIPLINE is a primary factor in learning to trade or invest. And every good investor/trader can attest to this at some point. But as a part of learning discipline each good investor/trader has probably experienced each of the emotional situations described in my prior post.

Again, I am merely waking folks up. Whether or not we wake to good feelings or bad, is not so much the point. . . .the main point is that we wake up and take a good look around.
