Delphc: I am in the exact same position as you are w/ JDSU as its success has made it a huge part of my portfolio. I share the same concerns (overpaid for SDLI, less nimble, dead money, etc). However, this is one stock I consider as an "investment" rather than a trade. Even though we have not gained any ground in price since March, we now have OCLI, ETEK and (hopefully) SDLI. All of these will start showing as accretive to earnings by the end of the year or sooner. Even though they may not be nimble, they will dominate a very high growth sector.
Yes, GMST took a huge hit while waiting for TVGIA, but SDLI is a "hot" company and has a much stronger following than TVGIA. Demand for SDLI should help to keep the price for JDSU higher.
All of the worries we have about JDSU were the same worries that investors said about CSCO and DELL in the early 1990's.
As you know, Jozef Straus, the JDSU CEO has said that JSDU and all of their subsidiaries will beat earning significantly. They report within 2 weeks and could give a good pop to the price.
The bottom might be in the 80-85 range, while the upside could easily be 160-180 (I think a SSB analyst recently called 220 as a target). Personally, I don't think now is the time to sell. It's a tough one.
Good luck!
Baton

Message 14028805 I found the above on another thread and thought you might be interested in this person's opinion. I do not own JDSU currently.

I am a huge believer in the whole FIBR sector, I was hurt when JDSU dropped but not much because I also hold AVNX and others(MRVC, A, NOPT, DIGL, LPTH.

If you think the deal is going to happen the smart play may be to sell JDSU and buy SDLI as you will get 3.8 shares of JDSU for every share of SDLI. This is what I did:)

Good luck!

DO,

JDSU is a long termer for me. JDSU=Just Don't Sell Us <g>
However I will trade around my core shares.
Perhaps you might consider some protective puts?
I have traded the options during some of the rough times.
