A few years ago I had two businesses (painting/paperhanging and a used bookstore) and my wife had a business (making and selling jewelry) Our accounting was a nightmare. My wife spent countless hours sorting out our affairs just to please the feds. It was very burdensome for her. We were never called in for audit, but they always had questions. Anything out of the norm must raise eyebrows at the IRS. It's not fun being regarded as a suspect by your government.

Yes, and the Mafia would leave you alone too, maybe even buy a present for your kid brother's wedding, as long as you paid them their protection money every week.
