Under a flat tax, the disincentive function would be eliminated. Also, property taxes would not be deductible<g>.

Most people are simply subject to payroll deduction, which does not require much "invasion". You are right enough about the self- employed and those who take a lot of deductions, but, again, the elimination of deductions would halt a lot of that invasiveness. Still, you have so far made the best argument!
