There is a write-up on the PFN board to Koan from Vaughn #1855 regarding the geology of the PGM mineralization in the Sudbury area outside of the basin. Flag's Rathbun Lake occurence is mentioned. To quote a portion "Those portions of the Nipissing Diabase that host Type 2 and Type 3 mineralization are hyperthene (10-30 model%) and magnesium (>9% weight % MgO) rich with low titanium etc..." The authors recommend exploration for this type of pgm mineralization be concentrated on the contact between the Nipissing diabase and the Huronian Meta-sediments which I believe Flag is doing. The geology of the area includes millions and millions of tons of magnesium rich diabase, both on and off of the Flag property, and there is Nipissing diabase from Sault Ste. Marie to Cobalt ..300? miles. Maybe Flag has some higher grade magnesium, but to my limited knowledge of magnesium production, I do know that Noranda has developed a process to recover magnesium from the millions and millions of tons of tailings from either Thetford Mines or Asbestos. P.Q. Also Cassiar Mining has obtained the former Cassiar asbestos mine in B.C. to do the same. Cassiar has received some financing ($25 million) from the Koreans (Hyundai?) to help in the development. To my knowledge the process requires huge amounts of electricity so B.C.Hydro and Hydro Quebec become important to the economics. Remember that the tailings are already mined and crushed sitting in piles. Nipissing diabase is usually hard (abrasive) to drill, and crush. Remember also that there is an awful lot of dolomite from Manitoulin down through the Niagara Escarpment, on both sides of the border. Dolomite is about 50% magnesium (carbonate as opposed to oxide). magnesium is pretty common. I am into Flag (in a small way) based on Pgm's and nickel/copper. I may be wrong, as I am not real knowledgeable about magnesium metallurgy, but I think the mag. is a non starter. If it is a non-starter, I hope it does become a distration to the real objective.
