Paul,

"afraid of new technologies?"

No...

Back to the subject at hand. As Rudedog recently pointed
out, he suspects Compaq shipped in the neighborhood of
35,000 (in the 30s anyhow) Linux boxes last year.. number
one Linux shipper at 25% of the market so maybe 130,000
Linux servers shipped last year (and untold boxes running
Linux that really are PCs masquerading as servers, etc.)

So maybe Itanium gets off to a roaring start and ships
10000 servers next year...

You know I am being annoying about this but gee whiz we
hear Itanium/Merced stuff for months and years.
Quietly, we notice little or no Win64 talk mostly all
Linux/Itanium talk. Intel wisely about 18 months ago
(search cnet www.news.com) starts a Linux push probably
knowing FULL well they would have a bride without a
bridegrooom if they waited for Win64.

Itanium... all dressed up and no place to go . . .
