"Can you identify a core principle of science (not a fact or theory, but something central to the scientific method) that relies on faith as an engine?" I believe the engine of my car will start because it has all the right scientific variables to make it do so....until it doesn't.

1. That it is better to know than not know. Is key to the scientific method but is unprovable. Must be taken on faith.

2. That the method of experimentation is a valid means of arriving at scientific truth.

3. Basic principles of logical deduction and induction.

There are lots of others. For example, that language has meaning. That there exist at least some fundamental laws or principles of nature. On and on.
