oh, i have always agreed that the US position atop the compost heap, as sole military superpower and hegemon left in the world is one of the main props of the dollar. and there can be no doubt that the end of the cold war, and the opening up of world trade were huge net positives for the global economy.

i am actually quite sanguine and bullish with regards to the long term outlook...i believe prosperity and progress will spread. my only reservation regards the more immediate, say five year or so outlook, in view of the financial excesses brought about by the unfettered credit and money creation and the various asset bubbles around the world.
to ensure a healthy future, these excesses must -and will - be brought to heel. unfortunately only a stunning several sigma hit over the head will accomplish that.
