Using Corvis' integrated suite of all-optical networking products, data was effectively transmitted on multiple OC-48, or 2.5 Gigabits, optical signals across a more than 3,200-kilometer route on the Williams nationwide fiber-optic network without electrical regeneration. These results mark a five-fold increase over distances achieved using current technologies that require regeneration every 400-600 kilometers. This achievement marks a significant milestone in the completion of the field trials of the Corvis' all-optical products. Williams expects to continue its field trial of the Corvis equipment over the next few weeks and will test the Corvis equipment's 160 optical wave capability. Corvis offers the industry's first end-to-end optical network solution that provides high-capacity, all-optical switching and ultra-long-distance transport with integrated network management required for next-generation, terabit Internet Protocol networks. Corvis products allow service providers to transmit signals entirely in the optical domain, which results in higher performance and reliability for carriers, while significantly reducing capital and operational cost of building and operating the network.corvis.com _Releases/Release_07_10_00/release_07.10.00.html --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
