No kidding ?

You can tell this from the following Gateway comment:

However, Todd said it was too early to say what the mix of AMD and Intel chips would be for the second half of the year.

Translation: there is no need to piss off the world's largest and most vindictive chip company.

Perhaps you should concern yourself with the part that said GTW's average consumer system price was ~$1800, and that consumer sales were up %37. (the total market is growing at what, ~20%?)

Consumers must have ponied upped big time for Gateway's overpriced PIII 800MHz + Rambus systems! (clearly there is no other explanation) Funny though, Gateway keeps pushing those bottom feeding Athwipe chips in their promotions...

Paul,

However, Todd said it was too early to say what the mix of AMD and Intel chips would be for the second half of the year.

He must reconsidering the corporate line. Down 10% y2y.

Workstations: RDRAM, 840, up to 866 MHz Intel Pentium III processor (Ouch): gatewayatwork.com

Managed PCs: gatewayatwork.com

Let's see the performance: gatewayatwork.com
Up to 850 MHz

How about High End - the featured model: gatewayatwork.com
800 MHz Piii, 192 MB PC-600 Rambus memory Double Ouch

It looks like Gateway followed Intel lead in the corporate market and ended up at the dead end.

Joe

Paul, re: You can tell [that GTW's 2nd half bodes well for AMD] from the following Gateway comment:

"However, Todd said it was too early to say what the mix of AMD and Intel chips would be for the second half of the year."

Actually Gateways fire insurance agent made a call to headquarters saying there was a lunatic ex-Intel-employee on the loose in Silicon Valley threatening to start a fire in Gateway's fabs, ... er, I mean, stores, in the area.
