Victor it was never about getting really good at your business. It was about selling the story....to sell the paper...to get rich off the business.

I think long term businesses can be profitable but they will never be as profitable as the paper and speculation from all of the paper. (short of a few monsters) Everyone knows that on some level.

I think the smart way to do it is as you do- use the web to raise awareness of your business,
and provide consumers with info so they are even more motivated to come to your shop. Use
the web to augment other forms of advertising.

Victor,

I obviously agree but do want to add that being able to order on-line is a must too. There are a percentage of people that are willing to wait and want the convenience of not traveling to a store. One does not need a seperate fulfillment center or centers to do this. One may use the existing inventory and building infrastructure to fulfill this smaller percentage of sales. This will keep costs lower, provide an excellent service for the customer both on-line and off. Thus, word or mouth will provide advertising and no additional charge. Many of our customers are pre-sold from our on-line site. They do not order on-line but they look and read about the product. They then come into the store, ask to see the item and then buy it. This cuts down on the time the sales person spends with the customer and of course costs.
