I don't rate the Korean nonsense as bad news at all. It's a bit like the great Korean calamity of 1998 when all panicked when it was obvious that they would cancel overseas trips, stay home, get back to work and buy a cellphone. Which they did. Now it is obvious that Korea will go crazy to extend the huge advantage they have gained in CDMA. They will NOT abandon the fastest way possible of getting CDMA to market. That's cdma2000, 1X RTT, 1X-EV, HDR, IS-95B and all that jazz. W-CDMA remains vaporware. The term vaporware seems to be losing its meaning. W-CDMA or DS-CDMA as it now seems to be called [though W-CDMA now means any damn thing at all, including MC-CDMA, or 1X RTT] is absolutely the epitome of vaporware. Vaporware is software which is promised when it is little more than a glint in the inventor's eye, with the announcement calculated primarily to stop competitors developing such a product, to stop customers buying the competing product, to confuse and FUDalize others. W-CDMA has been developed a long way, but it is still far from a real product. The name has been degraded to mean anything based on a GSM network. Any minute now and we'll see GPRS renamed to W-CDMA. Some are already calling GSM a W-CDMA product. That is vaporware. Maybe VapourWear too [in the sense of naked Kings boasting of their golden, invisible, raiment]. WWeb is going to be huge and it is going to be fast. Look at pathetic imode as an example of what lies ahead. imode is a joke. A pathetic joke. Yet is has captured millions of subscribers. WAP is a joke too. That is starting to be recognized in the media now. You can't surf the Web on a square inch at 1 mile an hour. WWeb is where it's at. HDR is how it will happen. 1X RTT, 1X-EV are the names to watch. Jumbling data and voice together is NOT the way to go [I know this because Andrew Viterbi says so and that's good enough for me and it makes sense - whereas Nokia, Ericy, Koreans, China and NTT do NOT make sense]. As always, and mentioned so many times in the past, people seem to think that because so many companies and countries are against Q! and criticizing royalties, attitudes, technology etc, there must be something to it. NO! This is nothing to do with democracy. It's everything to do with property rights and successful technology. All we need to do is realize that everyone except the USA government and Q! benefit from low royalties. So it seems to be all the world against Q! The USA likes the tax revenue Q! collects from around the world. That's why the USA is on Q!'s side. The USA is a good buddy to have in such a circumstance. Two years from now, people are going to wonder how on earth they missed the second coming of Q! They will curse selling at $60. 1999 was about cellphones and CDMA. 2001 will be about WWeb and CDMA. Q! is at the core of both. Mqurice
