Joe, Re: One thing you mentioned in the past (if I remember correctly) that you built some machines with a lot of memory > Gig. I think it was Dan3 that used the Abit board, I believe he populated it (them?) with 1.5 Gig. The most I've had in any of my machines is 384 MB. Re: It doesn't make sense to go with Slot A, but there is very little info how the Socket A motherboards perform in real life. True. Do you know how to tell when you've met a pioneer? Re: some machines with a lot of memory... We have one machine that was speced to do the initial image processing of files generated by a 36" drum scanner (calcomp 810c). The files have run as large as 1.7 gigabytes. The machine uses an Abit KA7 motherboard and 4 512 meg DIMMs for a total of 2 gigabytes of RAM. Our VAR had to special order the DIMMs (which must be unregistered and non-ecc) from apacer. It was a week from the time we placed the order to the time we received the machine (it's usually 2 to 3 days). A machine with the same hard drive and monitor but an 850 PIII instead of an 850 Athlon would have cost exactly twice as much from Dell. (12K vs 6K - The only configuration for a 2 gig machine from Dell uses the 840 motherboard and Rambus) The machine has had no problems and is used daily. It's kind of interesting to watch available and committed bytes in the performance meter graph as a 1.7 gig image is loaded. Regards, Dan
