An acquirer of Normandy may also buy California-based Homestake Mining, half owner with Normandy of the Super Pit, Australia's biggest gold mine, near Kalgoorlie in Western Australia state, Starick said.

``If AngloGold were serious about a merger with Normandy then the potential could be for them to take both Normandy and Homestake,'' he said.
