Pat: It is my understanding that Austin has a problem with the traffic, and it looks like I-35 is part of that. Then there's that fun with the Austin weather...Looks like the bright side is DELL. Focus on that! While you're at it, you can still buy a Web PC! :)Leigh

Dell discontinues consumer-oriented Web PC line

NEW YORK, July 11 (Reuters) - Dell Computer Corp. < >TICKER>DELL< >/TICKER> said on Monday it had discontinued the Web PC, the Round Rock, Texas-based company"s first consumer-oriented line of sleek personal computers. "It was taken off the (main Dell Web) site at the end of June," said Dell spokesman Bob Kaufman. "There are many for sale at the Dell factory Web site." The Dell factory Web site, a link on the dell.com Web site, is usually used to sell refurbished PCs. The Web PC was being sold on that site for $449 without a monitor. "It was an experiment for us from the beginning," said Kaufman. He declined to comment on how many of the computers were sold, or any of the financial expectations the company had for the Web PC line, which was unveiled just last November. The Web PC came in five different accent colours and had a hard drive, unlike some Internet access devices that have been introduced by other vendors. Dell"s small business and consumer products group had formed a group to focus on devices, Kaufman said.
