johnd, iPaq/PocketPC sales can't contribute much to the revenues for MSFT this quarter. Even if they make $39 per iPaq/Jornada (I think it will be more like $15), and if they sell 100,000 units (I think it will be more like 10,000 units in the last quarter), they will make $3.9 mil (more like $0.4 mil) in revenues. A paltry sum at best. I hope I am proven wrong about the earnings/revenues this quarter.

The future may be brighter...

Compaq iPaq Handheld -
I just got mine today. I actually paid retail, but I've had my order in since they were announced. It has a beautiful screen, very sleek form factor that's nicer to hold than my Palm V or my other WinCE machines, and it seems quite usable (caveat: I haven't really put it to the test).

First impression is, I love it! Now, if only I could get the expansion cradle for PCMCIA cards that I have on order. As Sandeep mentioned, I don't think the iPaq demand will have an immediate or direct impact on Microsoft's bottom line, but in the long term, I believe it is a very positive sign that Microsoft (and Compaq in this case) is zeroing in on the sweet spot for handhelds.
