It might bring focused attention to the role of analysts in the marketplace. And that may lead to exposes around track records, methodologies, and hidden agendas. If the analysts were evaluated on some set of objective criteria, and not just the reputation of their firm, people might take them more seriously as good sources of unbiased information. Then they won't get ragged on as much for predicting that XYZ stock is going to go to $1000...
