Yeah, installing Linux anymore is a piece of cake. Even these MSFT threadies could do it. The Mandrake distro might probably be the best one for you. I think you'd be surprized exactly how easy it is. You just want to get that Partition Magic program if you want to have a worry free install for a dual boot system. Of course what you get is a boot screen that prompts you to load Linux or Windows and you also choose which one to default to after however many seconds. --- The new GUI front ends are quite "Windows" like. I prefer the commandline and actually LEARNING things as opposed to just 'feeling' like I am. --- It's a good thing *I think not running an operating system that was designed by a focus group. --- One of the slick things about Mandrake Linux is that you can access all the stuff (data) on your windows partition from Linux in much the same way you might access stuff on a D drive from your Windows C drive. --- So, install Mandrake. You'll start having fun again with your PC. --- Just make sure you don't click "yes" to install Lilo (boot loader) to the MBR and instead install it to /hdd1 or whatever your Linux bootable partition is. << You make me feel I should make the jump and forget all my worries. >>

You don't really think that switching to Linux will make your computer use easier or more complete do you? It will be no more reliable than Windows and you won't be able to find even 10% of the software or other products that are available on Windows. If you really want to make the switch, you should wait a few years until Linux is established in the PC market.

Don't forget to look before you leap. IMO, you will be much more disappointed with Linux than you can possibly imagine.

Dave

Merry - I am a long time Unix user, and have a Linux desktop that I use routinely. Linux is making great strides, but it is still something that takes a lot of technical skill to set up and use. At the current state of Linux desktop development, you will find a lot of things that you want to do that you just can't do. My sense from your post is that you are not a technoid. Unless you have one living in the house, this would probably be a bad choice.
