Suggest the analog is CDMA and Qualcomm. That is the WINTEL team in wireless but in the case of the Q, Qualcomm is both Microsoft and Intel combined.



IMHO wintel combination has advantages over Q since Q does not have any other company to share in its evangelism of CDMA. Its similar to Apple Computers which basically almost died alone while wintel prospered since wintel had literally 'thousands' of companies spending time, money and energy to promote wintel.

BTW since Excel and Lotus have been mentioned in many recent posts, does anyone remember VISICALC? I always wondered why they didnt get patents on the 'look and feel' aspects of spreadsheets. Notice the patent on "1-click" (ridiculous as it seems to me).
